Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk Summary

Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk Summary

Billy Lynn is awarded the Silver Star, after “Bravo Squad”, his eight-man unit are filmed by Fox news whilst fighting in Iraq. When they arrive in the US, they are sent by the Bush administration on a Victory tour, in order to invoke support for the war.

During the Victory Tour, the Bravo Squad would attend the Dalla’s Cowboy’s Thanksgiving game, and have an appearance show with Destiny’s Child. Simultaneously, a Hollywood Producer named Albert Ratner is trying to help them sell their story to a movie studio. Dallas Cowboy’s owner, Norman Oglesby reduces the offer Albert gives him drastically.

After the Victory tour, it is revealed that the government wants to send the men back to Iraq to continue their duty. In a visit Lynn had with his family, they tried encouraging him to refuse to fight, and abandon the army. Lynn starts expressing his feelings on how the American citizens are treated and starts reflecting on his actions and the lives of his beloveds.

He begins a romantic relationship with a cheerleader, that is shocked when he tells her that he has to go back to the war. She reassures him that she will wait for him, but he knows that she won’t, because no one wants to spend years waiting for a soldier to return home. He leaves the Texas stadium together with his friends.
