Behind the Scenes at the Museum Characters

Behind the Scenes at the Museum Character List

Ruby Lennox

Ruby is the main character and protagonist of the novel. Living in York, England in the beginning of the book with her two sisters and parents, the family structure quickly begins to dwindle. Ruby always has bad things happening in her life, such as unexpected deaths or negative occurrences. Ruby eventually moves out of the house and vows that she will never let her own children go through what she had to go through.

Gillian Lennox

Gillian is a static character in the novel, but is Ruby's sister. She dies when she is just eleven years old due to a bus crash. It is later revealed that Gillian is responsible for killing Ruby's twin sister.

Patricia Lennox

Patricia is the oldest of the Lennox sisters, and the only person in the novel that Ruby ever has to find comfort in. When Gillian dies, she seeks comfort in her, and she is the first person she contacts after she moves out of the house. Patricia had originally run away from home because of an unplanned pregnancy that she put up for adoption.

Ruby's Mother

Ruby's mother is present all throughout Ruby's life, but it is evident that the two do not love each other. Ruby believes that her mother does not love her because she was unplanned. While this was true, the real reason that her mother does not like her is because she thinks Ruby is responsible for the death of her twin sister.

Pearl Lennox

Pearl is a very minor character in the novel, and the twin sister of Ruby. She was killed by drowning under a sheet of ice, and was supposedly pushed under the water by Ruby.

Ruby's Father

Ruby's father also does not play a very big role in the novel. Her father is caught cheating on her mother with another woman, and soon after, he dies of a heart attack.
