Agu describes a banana that one of the soldiers was eating by using the simile, '...banana as black as the road.’ In his description, he has employed the use of a simile that likens the color of the banana to the black color of the road. The simile builds imagery.

Agu used the simile, ‘sweat is sticking on my skin like a million shiny insects.’ In this description, Agu has used a simile that directly compares how the sweat stuck onto him to a million shiny insects for it was a lot and it would not come off.
