Ira’s love life
Ira's love life is paradoxical. Ira is introduced as a broken man after divorcing his wife in the title story. However, Ira seems to enjoy his freedom, but the scars of his divorce are evident. To move out of depression, Ira makes up his mind to love again. Later, Ira meets Zora, whose personality is strange, but he decides to oversee that for love. However, the Love between Ira and Zora is short-lived because she is more attached to her son than Ira. Consequently, Ira is not lucky because his love relationships are paradoxical.
Zora’s closeness with her son
Zora’s close relationship with her son, Bruno, is paradoxical because it creates an imbalance in her love life. When Zora dates Ira, she tells him that she has a grown-up boy. Ira does not mind Zora having a son, and one day, he takes her for a date. Ironically, Zora starts crying during the date that she misses her son. Ira gets irritated and ends the relationship.
Robin’s friends’ conversation
The conversation between Robin's friends as they drive towards her place is satirical because they talk as if she is alive. In the story 'The Juniper Tree,' Robin is dead, but her friends are in denial because they believe she is still alive. When they arrive at her place, Robin shows up as a ghost to comfort them.
A messy wedding ceremony
In the story ‘Thank You For Having Me,' there is a wedding which is expected to be rosy and enjoyable. Paradoxically, the wedding turns out to be messy and ridiculous. The satire is that the best man in the wedding is the pride's ex-husband. The other shocking incident is when stolen bikers mistakenly smash at the wedding, creating more havoc and distraction.
