Biography of Amber McBride

Amber McBride is an African-American poet and author of young-adult and middle-grade fiction.

Writing from a young age, McBride pursued a BA in English from James Madison University and an MFA in poetry from Emerson College. Her debut book, Me (Moth), is a young-adult verse novel that was a finalist for the National Book Award for Young People's Literature in 2021. The novel won the Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe Award for New Talent in 2022. She followed the release with another young-adult verse novel, We Are All So Good at Smiling, and made her middle-grade fiction debut with Gone Wolf in 2023.

McBride is a professor of creative writing at the University of Virginia.
