The speaker of the poem
The speaker of the poem is a desperate and conflicted individual who is having trouble with his relationship with religion and feelings of guilt. The first part of the poem shows an outburst of complete devotion, self-assurance in religious belief, while the second part reveals the conflicting feelings of guilt and sin.
Angels
The angels that the speaker of the poem directs his speech in the first part are angels of Judgement day, in religion believed to announce the Judgement day by blowing the trumpets and bring destruction upon the Earth.
God
The speaker of the poem directs his words, his prayer to the God, asking for repentance and forgiveness for his sins. He asks to be taught to repent while he is still alive and compares it to a seal in blood at the very end of the poem.
