In South Africa, the Askaris are the Africa National Congress (ANC) members who are treacherous to the party. These members are considered traitors because they leak ANC’s confidential information to the apartheid administration. The primary goal of ANC is to end apartheid but the Askaris are making this fight almost impossible because they are collaborating with the apartheid system. Therefore, the Askaris are expelled and subjected to disciplinary committees for punishment.

Jacob Dlamini has put more focus on betrayal and mistrust in his book. The book is all about the struggle against the apartheid regime. ANC movement is in the frontline to fight the evils of Apartheid and ensure that all South Africans are treated equally. However, the fight against apartheid is hindered by mistrust and betrayal by most of the trusted members of ANC who collaborate with the regime secretly. Sedibe is one of the main traitors of ANC because he sides with apartheid system without the knowledge of other members. Besides being the most trusted ANC leader, he leaks all the information about ANC when he is arrested and tortured.

Why is Sedibe breaking his ANC trust and confidence when arrested?

Sedibe has served ANC for nine years and all this time he has been a dedicated member towards the course of the movement. After working with ANC for all these years, he has gained the confidence of every member. He is among the people who want to end apartheid in South Africa. However, a few hours after his arrest, he betrays ANC by giving out confidential information. He does this because his life and that of his family is threatened. As a result, ANC brands Sedibe as an Askari who sides with the enemy.
