Day 2

Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. Lesson Plan

Discussion of Thought Questions

  1. 1

How does Margaret feel about the class's misbehavior and Mr. Benedict's responses?

Although Margaret is diligent about her own work, she still feels pressure to engage with the class's antics. She studies hard for social studies and reviews her arithmetic problems, but still participates in the peeps and leaves her name of her test. Students might have the sense, however, that when Mr. Benedict returns the correct test papers to the correct students, Margaret feels a kind of satisfaction. She wants the "right way"—the teacher's way—to triumph.

  2. 2

When Margaret and Janie see each other at the department store, why don't they admit to each other that they're getting bras?
