Simple yet Complex

I am a simple person. My dad works with computers, my mom works with food, and ironically, my two favorite things are computers and food. Yet, no matter how hard I try to convince myself that I’m that simple, my thoughts always wander into the intricate and nuanced aspects of any situation. Even a simple yes or no question embarks me on a mental journey through a maze of contexts and considerations. I find this idea of the complexity behind simple things to be especially prevalent in computers. Smartphones, for example, are relatively simple and intuitive devices, yet have so much complex programming and circuitry underneath their basic interfaces.

Ever since I was given the chance to own my laptop in 4th grade, I’ve had an unstoppable interest in computers. As I grew older, I became more intertwined with the digital realm by building my desktop PC. Integrating these devices into my life showed me that computers possessed the quality of complexity behind simplicity. I had noticed that I shared this quality of complexity behind simplicity with computers at a young age. Coupling this observation with my quick arithmetic abilities, I was led to the only logical conclusion: I am a computer.
