Why Brown?

Why Brown?

Freedom. That is the essence of the Open Curriculum at Brown. As a student committed to engineering but with broad interests and a desire to explore them, I find that nothing excites me more than the opportunity to be the director of my own experience. I could take courses like ‘The Engineer’s Burden’ as well as ‘The Power of Data’ to further my interests in engineering for development and statistics based economics, along with others in the fields of Math and History.

At Brown, I would place myself in a community that recognizes the interdisciplinary nature of learning and provides an Engaged Scholars Program to focus on societal benefit. The experience is by no means one-dimensional; I would delve into research and eagerly continue with community service using the opportunities provided at Swearer, audition for the Wind Symphony and apply to participate in SPIRA, all while learning in and exploring beautiful Providence.
