Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes or contributed to group efforts over time.
I wish someone had been recording the moment we pitched the idea to my physics teacher, Mr. Heese. His forehead crinkled and his brow arched, completing his puzzled complexion as he sat at his desk.
“So you want to start a club… that grills meat?”
“Yes.”
“But why?”
As any student can attest, school is stressful, and amid the grueling marathon of junior year I, along with a couple classmates, founded a club to provide refuge from the pressures of high school. By grilling meats and vegetables, we sought to reinvigorate campus life and raise money for charities, dubbing ourselves Grillers United. As a brand new club, we had no pre-existing structure to rely on compared to other organizations on campus. Instead, we had to start from scratch. Being a founder and Vice President of Grillers United has allowed me to develop the qualities of a confident and committed leader who empowers others. As we planned during lunch every day how to make the club a reality, ideas were constantly thrown around. I’ve never been one to be soft-spoken in these matters, always loudly voicing my opinions.
