"It's not destroying. It's making something new."
Lena tells Dr. Ventress that "The Shimmer" is making something new with every part of the earth it reaches. Ventress believes that it is destroying, but the truth is that it is creating.
"Ventress wants to face it. You want to fight it. But I don't think I want either of those things."
Josie is between two people who are on opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of what to do about "The Shimmer." However, Josie doesn't want to choose either path; instead, she decides to become part of "The Shimmer" and submits to it.
"You're not Kane, are you?"
Lena asks this of the entity that has become her husband, Kane. She knows that her husband died inside "The Shimmer" and that some sort of entity has taken his form. The man even responds to her saying that he doesn't think that he is Kane.
