Prior to the publication of Anatomy of a Scandal, writer Sarah Vaughan was best known for her work as a journalist at The Guardian until 2008. She had written several successful books, but none had risen to the level of fame of Anatomy of a Scandal.
The novel tells the story of a man called James, who has been accused by a staffer within his office (he is a senior British official) of raping her. James' doting wife Sophie believes James, but a brutal trial - prosecuted by a woman who had previous connections with James ensues. This ultimately threatens their relationship and the stability and makeup of the British government as a whole.
Anatomy of a Scandal is a novel which typifies the #MeToo era. It is also a useful commentary on the state of politics and politicians around the world (but particularly the U.K.) - especially some of the sexual behavior of politicians across the globe.
