Benedict Bridgerton
Benedict is the second Bridgerton brother who is thought to be the dreamer and most kind-hearted of all the brothers. He believes in love at first sight, which stops him from moving on from the girl he meets at the masked ball.
Sophia “Sophie” Beckett
Sophie is the illegitimate daughter of the Earl of Penwood, and, later, works as a maid. She is also the woman who Benedict falls in love with at the ball, and whom she is reunited with when he saves her from being raped.
Earl of Penwood
The Earl of Penwood cared for his daughter, Sophie, but could never express his love for her due to her social status. After his death, his wife spends the dowry he leaves for Sophie and treats her like a servant.
