The Irony of the police officer
The police officers are expected to enforce laws and ensure justice is served to those oppressed in society. Sarcastically, the police officer in Billy and Isaac's case hide the evidence from the murder scene to prove that the two gentlemen are innocent. Therefore, the mad man who is killed does not get justice because of the rotten system.
The paradox of Isaac
Isaac is a satirical character who does not care about the well-being of his disabled father. For instance, Isaac is jealousy of his sister, and he takes the money of his disabled father, and he runs away. Isaac thinks that the only way he can explore the outside world away from the small town is by stealing his father's money.
The satire of prison
The reader expects prisoners to be taken good care of by the wardens while at the jail facility. The main reason for having inmates is the correct them to become better members of society. Ironically, senior inmates oppress new prisoners by molesting and beating them, and the authorities do nothing. For instance, Billy is stabbed and disabled by fellow inmates, and nothing is done by the prison authorities to help him.
The Irony Billy
When Billy is arrested, he refuses to admit that Isaac was part of the crime, which caused the death of the mad man. Billy is aware that he killed the mad man with the help of Isaac. Ironically, Billy decides to carry the cross alone, getting imprisoned. When Isaac finally comes home, he wants to confess to the police that he was part of the crime, but Billy asks him to let it go.
