Almost Perfect Characters

Almost Perfect Character List

Logan Witherspoon

Logan is the first-person narrator and protagonist of the novel. He is kind of a jock, although members of the track team in most American high schools are not exactly accorded the deference which earns that dubious term. He is a senior readying to graduate who has just out how his steady girlfriend throughout freshman to junior grind has cheated on him. All the stars just seem to be lining up perfectly in anticipation of the arrival of a tall, strikingly attractive new female student suddenly walking into class.

Brenda

Brenda is the spectacled raven-haired beauty who accompanies Logan to the homecoming dance in October. She has a delicate femininity and is just pretty enough for Logan to compare winning her affection to scratching off the numbers on a lottery ticket revealing a million dollar jackpot although for most other guys, she was the equivalent of a $50,000 scratch-off at best. Her fidelity, however, ultimately turns out to be one of those fake lotto tickets pranksters seem to find giving as birthday gifts such fun for some reason.

Sage Hendricks

Sage is the physical opposite of Brenda in every way. Her nearly six feet of frame could hardly be termed delicate even if she didn’t storm into a room but merely walked like everyone else. Rusty red locks and brilliant green eyes combined to make the braces-covered teeth almost seem exotically out of place. The first time Logan sees her, the imposing physique is further enhanced by an outfit designed like a black-and-white cookie, pointy black boots, gigantic hoop earrings all of which are confidently settled beneath a black beret. Sage thinks she is hardly the typical kind of girl seen in his small town. This will prove to be truer that Logan could ever have possibly imagined.

Laura

Laura is Logan’s older sister who attends college out of town. This singular fact will prove to be of exceptional significance to the path taken by the narrative as it will open up opportunities for behavior not so easily pursued under the watchful eyes parents and the short life span of small town secrets.
