All Our Relations is a non-fiction book, based on Talaga's CBC Massey Lectures. This compelling work looks at cultural genocide among indigenous people, revealing the ongoing, tragic impact colonialism has had in North America. Talaga explores the tragedies indigenous people face, such as overt racism, a loss of identity, and increased rates of suicide. Talaga argues that this issue needed to be explored in an academic sense, beyond the exploration of this topic in the news. She wants to get to the real root of the problem, which she achieves in writing this book.
Cultural genocide through history has caused a tragic rise in youth suicides among young indigenous people. Talaga argues that this is true of indigenous people living in North America, but also argues that this is also a global issue, pointing to high indigenous suicide rates in Greenland and Australia. Talaga explores how many indigenous children feel so isolated and hopeless that they are driven to suicide and are drawn to a romanticized idea of death. She then looks towards the future, exploring possible solutions to this problem.
