Agent 6 Imagery

Description of Leo Demidov

The narrator describes him as, '... he has the face and spirit of a propaganda poster, a square jaw with angular lips ever ready with a slogan.' The narrator has created imagery in the description by using adjectives such as square to describe the shape of his jaw and angular to describe the shape of his lips.

Description of Polina's diary

As Agent Leo was holding Polina's diary, he described it as follows, ' It smelt of soot. Against the run of his thumb, the pages made a crackling noise, like dry autumn leaves.' The description contains imagery because the narrator has used a simile to describe the noise that was produced as he ran his fingers on the diary. The simile has likened the sound to that of crackling dry autumn leaves.

Description of a tram car

As Agent Demikov was in a tram car while going to work, he described them as, '... painted with a thick white stripe at their centre, they rattled around the city like giant boiled sweets.' The description of the tram cars is so vivid as the reader can picture them in their mind. This is because of use of a simile that compares the tram cars to giant boiled sweets.

The projected farmers' Village

The description of the village is as follows, ' The houses were made of timber and roofs were thatched. Small gardens were lush with summer herbs. Plump chicken picked at grain overflowing from ceramic pots.' The narration contains imagery because of the use of adjectives such as small to describe the gardens, ceramic to describe the pots and plump to described the chicken.
