A Very Very Very Dark Matter Characters

A Very Very Very Dark Matter Character List

Hans Christian Andersen

The antagonist of the story, Hans Christian Andersen was a famed children's book author who imprisoned a young pygmy woman named Marjory and forced her to write his books -- most notably "The Little Mermaid." He is a sick, twisted, and sadistic man who enjoys torturing his slave. He is also an idiotic and mostly incompetent man man without a moral compass. He is seemingly unable to write anything of value by himself; he has to rely on Marjory to create works which ensure he remains famous, the thing which he craves the most.

Marjory

The protagonist of the play, Marjory is imprisoned and enslaved by Hans Christian Andersen so that she can write the books which continue to make him famous. To that end, Hans puts Marjory in a box which he occasionally makes smaller -- along the way cutting off limbs to make her fit.

Despite her circumstances, Marjory is a proud and intelligent woman who never truly breaks during or after Hans' torture.

Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens play an important role in the play. Like Andersen, Charles Dickens imprisons another pygmy woman to write his novels -- novels like A Christmas Carol and Oliver Twist. Also like Hans, Dickens is a harsh and cruel man who treats his imprisoned pygmy woman (like others in his life) with a tremendous amount of disdain and disrespect.

Narrator

A Very Very Very Dark Matter is told from the point of view of the narrator. The narrator is a seemingly intelligent and funny person is heavily invested in Hans' fascinating story.
