Ghostly
George is seen looking out his floor to ceiling glass window before heading to work. We see him from outside the home looking in and the imagery makes him look like a ghost, as if he is transparent. It shows us exactly how he feels, like the living dead, after losing Jim.
Pouring Rain
After getting the phone call that Jim is dead, George is seen running into the rain to Charley's house. It's a downpour and the imagery along with George's broken heart all show us this great wave of emotion, loss, anger and pain that is coming uncontrollably out of George as he has lost the love of his life.
Floating Camera
George delivers a energized and heart-felt speech to his students about fear. Ford uses a floating camera in a close up while he speaks which has George moving in and out of frame. The imagery shows that he himself is floating in and out of living the truth of what he is saying, and also that he knows he is losing his students primarily because he is losing himself.
Color
Ford uses a shift from very dull colors to vibrant and enhanced colors during the day for what George is experiencing. The imagery shows us that he is fully present with the people and things that he is seeing, and he is having a full-on sensory experience with it in a heightened state of presence.
