"Walter Lee Younger it is time for you to get up!"
Ruth says this to Walter at the beginning of the film. Her statement is one that hits the core of their relationship. She is trying to wake him up from a dream state that he is living in.
"Yeah we've all got acute ghetto-itis."
Beneatha says this to Asagi who is over visiting her, when he asks if there is something wrong with her. This statement is her response as she is saying that they are being overwhelmed with the circumstances of their life in a backwards neighborhood.
"He's had a little to drink. I don't know what her excuse is."
Ruth says this to George when he comes in to find Beneatha and Walter dancing to tribal music. Walter is drunk, but Beneatha is overwhelmed by something different, a connection to her home land of Africa and George is not too pleased about it.
