Mary Alice Dowdel is a younger sister of Joey. Mary Alice doesn’t even realize how much her Grandma and her have in common.

Miss Effie Wilcox is Mrs. Dowdel’s enemy. However, when Effie Wilcox is forced to leave her house for she can’t pay for it, Mrs. Dowdel helps her to get it back. Their feud transforms into a rather strange kind of friendship.
