Objective:

Students will watch videos on the need for clean water in South Sudan to better understand Nya's storyline.

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.6.7, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.6.2

Structure:

Introduce the activity by having students recap what they have learned about Nya's family and their struggle to have enough water to live. Students should recount how Nya must make two long journeys to a pond each day, and her family must relocate once a year during the dry season. The water they find in both places is dirty and contaminated.
