A Different Mirror Background

A Different Mirror is a retelling of the history of the United States of America written by academic, historian, author and ethnographer Ronald Takiki. The book was published June 1st 1994 by Back Bay Books, though it was first published in 1993. The original title is A Different Mirror: A History of Multicultural America (A Back Bay Book), and spans over 508 pages.

The History of the United States of America is presented in a different view, a revolutionary one. Takiki shows the life the ethnic histories that people haven't learned before. North America wasn't "discovered" for the first time by the Europeans, and in the book, a fresh perspective on the reality we have learnt is offered.

The book won the "American Book Award (1994)". Ronald Takiki died in 2009 at the age of 70 committing suicide, after suffering from multiple sclerosis. He received many honors, including "Association of Asian American Studies (AAAS), Lifetime Achievement Award, 2009" and "Society of American Historians (SAH); 1995".
