A Day Dream

A Day Dream Summary

The speaker witnesses a beautiful summer afternoon and imagines it as the wedding of May and June. At the same time, she finds herself unable to enjoy this lovely day. After some rocks ask her why she appears so dour, she takes a moment to reflect. She realizes that because she knows that this moment will pass with the coming autumn and winter, and can already see the signs of it, it is impossible to appreciate this scene. Then a celestial figure appears before her eyes and tells her that these things have meaning precisely because they are fleeting. For this reason, it informs her, she should appreciate the summer. The day ends and the speaker's perspective has changed.
