    It seems Masha has never recovered from her love for Treplev. She and Medvedenko have had a child, but Masha remains hostile and distant with her husband, depressive, picking fights, and longing for Treplev. She's clearly embarrassed about the way she feels, but she also doesn't show Medvedenko very much respect or love, and doesn't seem very interested in her child or their life together.
