Becoming RBG: Ruth Bader Ginsburg's Journey to Justice Character List

Sandra Day O’Connor

Sandra Day O’Connor was the first female Justice of the Supreme Courts of the United States. She was involved in the rulings of landmark cases such as, Grutter v. Bollinger (2003) and Hamdi v. Rumsfeld (2004) and was a source of inspiration to Ginsburg as she delved into the legal sector.

Ruth Ginsburg

Ginsburg is a women’s rights activist and the second female Justice at the Supreme Courts of the United States. She is one of the most notable figures in the US socio-political scene, having been successful in prominent cases such as, Moritz v. Commissioner (1972) , Frontiero v. Richardson (1973), Weinberger v. Wiesenfeld (1975) and United States v. Virginia (1996) being some of her more prominent cases.

Martin David Ginsburg

Martin David Ginsburg was an American lawyer with a speciality in tax law. He is also the husband of famed U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Martin is mentioned throughout the book for his support of his wife’s court cases against gender-discriminative laws that were in place in the 1970’s and 80’s. He is noted for being a strong supporter of women’s rights, and very much unlike other more conservative and traditionalist men at the time.
