Why doesn’t Ann take the stove apart?

Ann doesn't take the stove apart early in the novel because she sees smoke near Claypole Ridge. Preparing food and moving water to the cave becomes her priority, as she doesn't want to attract attention.

Ann does, however, take the stove apart and move it later in the novel.
