This is only a short answer space but I can make a general comment. I think the reader is meant to feel pretty good about Jack punching Julian. Julian is being a pretty nasty antagonist at this point and it's always nice to see a bully get what's coming to him. Although violence is seldom a good answer to conflicts, the readers empathy with Auggie is by this point well developed.
