How can this story be considered a coming of age story?

Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been can be considered a coming of age story in that we witness Connie's first rebellion against authority..... her parents. She starts to refuse family gatherings, she lies to her parents, and she engages in activities of which she knows her parents wouldn't approve. As a result, she gets in too deep..... and sadly, unlike most kids, she doesn't have a way to get out.
