how do the themes relate to human connection

The theme of Home and Immigration questions the things we become attached to (our homes), and whether or not we'd be willing to give up the security of home for a better life.

Another of the novel's themes deals with the relationship between the Sudan and The United States. In relation to "human connection," we need to look at educating ourselves and dissecting whatever relationship there is between the two countries in order to better understand the plight of refugees. We cannot make a connection if ignorant to the lives of the Sudanese people.
