I would love to have Shay as a friend. She is an individual, she refuses to compromise, and she follows her heart. Shay's one weakness is her inability to forgive, something that will erect a barrier between her and her true friends. In my opinion, Westerfield's depiction of Shay is honest and realistic...... she isn't perfect, and she is a teenager....... hormone's often rule common sense.
