Why does Theresa adopt 2 cats and name them after her nieces, Callie and Mona?

After moving out of their home, Theresa misses the girls, thus, she names the cats after Callie and Mona. When she moves back into the family home, she allows the girls to rename the cats.... they choose the names Barbie and Ken.
