When Long John Silver visited the stockade, he held a white flag, communicating that he wanted to talk. Silver told the captain turn over the treasure map, and suggested that the treasure be divided between the two sides. The captain refused and told Silver to bring his men and surrender. Shortly after Silver left, the next battle began.
