Which characters do and do not abuse alcohol? How do the alcohol abusers and non-abusers differ?

This is never really dealt with directly. We see pirates like Billy Bones drink rum like it was water. It is both stated and implied that Long John Silver drink a lot of alcohol. It would seem that Jim and the people that align with him, like Dr. Livesey, don't seem to partake in alcohol so much.
