Squire Trelawney backs the voyage financially and initiates the hunt for treasure. Sadly, he isn't the "planner" he believes himself to be. Trelawny is responsible for hiring the pirates. He is a poor judge of character, and he is completely naive. Trelawney also finds it impossible to keep things to himself. He gossips, trusts the wrong people, and puts both the journey..... and his friends, in danger.

“Redruth,” said I, interrupting the letter, “Dr. Livesey will not like that. The squire has been talking, after all.”
