What was Scout confused about when she read the editorial? What became clear to her upon later reflection?

Scout was confused because she didn't understand how Tom's death could be deemed a "senseless killing." Upon reflection, it became clear to Scout that Tom received no justice in his trial.... that he died because of the racism that permeated the town of Maycomb.
