What is the best reason for why Atticus accepts a case that he knows he will lose?

Atticus felt that he must "do the right thing" even in the face of overwhelming odds. He felt that if he did not take the case, he could never ask Scout and Jem to do anything again. Atticus had to take the case to maintain his conscience and his integrity.
