what explanation does atticus give for bob ewells personal attack and threat?

Atticus tells the children that Ewell's attack was a response to his humiliation..... his embarrassment at being discredited over the course of the trial. At that point, Atticus believed that Bob Ewell just needed someone else to take it out on.
