What does miss maudie think of the radleys?

Miss Maudie felt compassion for Arthur Radley.She under stood how abused he was both physically (likely) and emotionally by his father. He was a religious zealot who used the Bible to harm his family,

"You are too young to understand it . . . but sometimes the Bible in the hand of one man is worse than a whiskey bottle in the hand of --oh, your father."

Ms. Maudie shows insight by saying that we will never really know the extent of abuse that went on in that house,
