What does Atticus ask of Bob Ewell that makes Scout nervous, and what is his purpose in asking it?

Atticus asks Bob if he can read or write. This makes Scout nervous because she is not sure where he is going with the question. Atticus wants to illustrate that Bob Ewell is left-handed because Mayella had been hit on her right side. Tom cannot use his left hand.
