Scout concludes chapter 24 by saying, “If Aunty could be a lady at a time like this, so could I.” In what sense are Scout and Alexandra behaving like proper Southern ladies? Is this the appropriate response to all they have heard and learned on this part

Aunt Alexandra and Miss Maudie go back to their guests after hearing about Tom Robinson's death and carry on as usual. They pull themselves together and go back to the group without revealing their inner turmoil..... they do not make it a source of gossip. Scout is impressed by their ability to remain calm in the face of a storm, and Scout follows their lead. There's a lot to be said for acting like a lady.
