I'm not exactly sure which chapter you are referring to. Scout and Atticus have a relationship based on love and respect. Scout has been taught to read by Atticus at a very young age. Scout was literate in a town that was perhaps largely illiterate. It is through the reading and sharing of stories that Atticus and Scout connect at both an intellectual and on an emotional level. They explore the world together both in fiction and non-fiction. The end scene where Atticus reads Scout the Grey Ghost is especially poignant.
