Scout was eavesdropping on Atticus's conversation with Uncle Jack. Some of the conversation contained adult content about the Robinson case. Atticus knew Scout was listening and wanted to hear it. Atticus knew the stress on Scout and he wanted her to be informed because things were about to get even more stressful.
