On Page 75, why does Jem want to get his pants from the Radley place? What does tell us about his point of view, and is it reliable?

Jem wanted to get his pants and keep Atticus from knowing what they'd done. He understood what they did was wrong, and it wasn't the beating that scared him, it was disappointing his father.

This novel is not narrated from "his" point of view.
