The black community rises and stands silently out of respect for what Atticus has done for Tom Robinson and their community. Everyone knew the truth, everyone knew Tom Robinson was innocent of the charges against him, and everyone understood that Atticus had proved his point, even if his case was impossible to win. Rev. Sykes says it all when he says, "stand up Scout, your fathers passing."
