To Kill a Mockingbird

How does Lee create sympathy for Miss Caroline at the end of the chapter? How does Lee use the school setting to give the reader important exposition about Southern culture?

Thanks

She depicts Miss Caroline burying her head in her arms when the children leave the classroom. A true sign of emotional exhaustion.
