how did scout convince the men to leave
Scout appeals to Mr. Cunningham. She mentions his entailment and how his son Walter is a "friend". The innocence of a child seems to bring Mr. Cunningham to his senses; he realizes he is going to hurt a good man who has done him favours. Scout appeals to his humanity rather than his hate. Mr. Cunningham tells the mob to go home.
