The wolf howled to wake the man up after the man died. Why? What symbolizes this?

Hey, the dog was making sure the man was dead. The dog still felt the pull of man's power over it. This was the dog's way of making sure the man was dead before it went on its way. THe dog really didn't like this guy anyway.

But why would the dog do this anyways.
