The story is written in first person from Jerome's point of view. Jerome frequently uses Observational humour which sometimes overlaps with satire. The comedy has a dry British "Monty Python"- like quality to it that is really funny. The fact that these guys are all sort of hypochondriacs spoiled by the city launches their adventure to some pretty funny places. Consider the men trying to put up a tent or tow their boat in the river- funny stuff!
